Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
Just a hard working blue collar guy from Michigan… CNC 3D programmer in the tool and die industry. Big college football fan (GO BLUE!!!). On the side, I’ve played in various bands (drummer)…and within the last few years got into home recording. I hope to have some songs from the stuff I’ve written (and older stuff from other bands) in the same movie the cars will be featured in.
How did you first get interested in this hobby/passion?
I’ve been into cars as long as I can remember. I was a “Matchbox Car” kid!!! Always put together 1:24 scale models….with EXTREME detail!
What Rides do you currently own?
A 1970 Olds 4-4-2 W-30 and a 1966 Plymouth Satellite (my brother and I own it together actually, inherited from our dad)
What do you like most about your Cool Rides?
Freedom from the rest of the world. Sometimes just driving them is all the therapy you need. With the Satellite, as a tribute to my late father…nothing but 50’s and 60’s are played in it. With the 4-4-2…. anything goes! Nothing like a little speed with some loud guitars and thumping kick drum with the Bazooka sub woofer in the trunk!
What is the best memory you have with your favorite ride?
Best? hmmm….. with the 4-4-2, I guess that would be trailering it home right after I bought it…going through the toll booth in Ohio. A younger kid was working in it that day, and before I could even pull all the way up to it, he came running out of it…walked up to my window and said, “I saw you coming from a half mile away. That…has got to be….the most bad-a** car I have ever seen in my life!”….lol. (The outside was almost the way it looks now, however…it needed a good wetsand and buff job)
How do you store your ride(s) during infrequent use, and what maintenance tips can you provide for readers?
The cars are kept in a garage when not in “frequent” use. Other than putting a “battery tender” on them, some STA-BIL® fuel additive in them during the winter, and a cover on them….NOTHING. Insurance is on them year round. So, if the roads are dry and salt free, and the sun is shining….you may see me behind the wheel…..with a grin on my face!
What was the first car you ever owned?
The first car I ever owned actually was a 1970 Olds F85 Cutlass when I was 15 years old. Paid $1800 for it. My dad’s father bought him and his older brothers their first cars (back then, $200 would buy a lot!). So, dad offered my brother and I close to the same deal. He put down the first $1000, and said, “If you want something better, the rest is up to you.” So, I worked hard and saved up $800….and bought a gas guzzlin’ old car with a 350 in it out of an old “Wheels and Keels” magazine. That’s what got me into Cutlasses in the first place. I owned that car up until about 10 years ago. I wanted to restore it, but it was too far gone. I figured it was time to part it out, and get something I really wanted. So, I decided on a 4-4-2. Then after some research, I really wanted to try to find a W-30 car. I got real greedy, and wanted a 4-speed. RARE, right! Well……let’s just say, I hit the jackpot…. the rest is history 😉
What is/was the BEST car ever made?
Well, I’d like to think I own it! Hard saying, there are so many great cars out there…..
What is/was the WORST car ever made?
Hard saying…. how about….. anything FOREIGN!!! lol
How did you first hear about the Cool Rides Online website?
A friend on Facebook said I should enter my car on it, and sent me the link….and here we are 😉
