Enjoying a 1960 Apache

By Steve Tockey

Please tell us a little bit about yourself:
I’ve been around cars all my life; my father worked on cars and it was just natural for me to follow his example. We would buy cars and trucks and repair them and re-sell. Through the years we have owned many classics.

How did you first learn about Cool Rides Online?
I learned about Cool Rides when a friend posted a picture of a car that was on Cool Rides.

What Cool Rides do you currently own?
Currently I own just my 1960 Apache.

Now tell us a little about your favorite “Cool Ride”; what makes it special?
I really enjoy my truck; I get thumbs up everywhere I go. I enjoy talking to people that have memories of a family member’s truck or car that they had in the past. I enjoy people getting down and checking out the suspension and other modifications that I’ve done.

What’s next for your Cool Ride?  Planning additional work for it or maybe a special trip/cruise?
Last year I installed Vintage Air and power steering. I’ve made 3 trips to Huntington Beach, CA in the past and plan to make the trip again soon. I had lots of support and help from my grand kids and son-in-law.

What’s your favorite memory involving your Cool Ride?
We all enjoy going to car shows and we all have a story to tell with the making of my truck. We did a frame-off restoration on it in a single car garage.

What was the most difficult modification you’ve completed on any of your Cool Rides?
I think the most time-consuming upgrade was the Vintage Air, but it was well worth the time.

What is your dream car to own if money was not an issue?
My dream car would be my Dads old 1962 Impala Convertible.

Taking care of collector vehicles is not easy.  Do you have any special tips on how to take care of your Cool Rides in and out of storage?
I have a routine when it comes to getting my truck ready for storage; I change oil, check all fluid levels, wash and wax the truck, put it on wheel dollies and cover for the winter, that way it is ready to go in the spring. Wash it and start cruising.

Is there anything else you’d like the Cool Rides Online members to know about you?
I have great respect for young people that show interest in our passion for old cars and trucks, it will be up to them to carry on after we are gone.
