Buy your kid a Shelby Cobra 427

That is, buy them a Shelby Cobra 427 electric toy car, designed as a collaboration between Carroll Shelby Licensing and Hong Kong toy manufacturer National Products Limited. The vehicle has a top speed of 5 miles per hour, with two gears (low and high) and reverse. It can run for about 45 minutes before the battery needs to be charged again. And it looks awesome.

Only 998 Shelby Cobras were produced between 1962 and 1967, so  only 998 electric toy replica versions will be made as well. Each one will have its own unique serial number, and the same detailing you would find on a real Cobra.

It also includes chrome wheels, side exhaust pipes and comes in red or blue.

National Products Limited is known for making toy replicas of other famous vehicles, including Hummers and Mercedes. The vehicle is expected to go on sale in October for the holiday season at a retail price of $299, a steal for a Shelby, and will be on display at the Monterey Historic Races and SEMA Show.

"National Products will be donating the limited edition No. 98 Shelby Cobra 427 ride-on prototype displayed at Monterey as part of a larger initiative to raise more awareness for the Carroll Shelby Foundation," says Tracey Smith, Carroll Shelby Licensing president, in a news release.

The Carroll Shelby Foundation, named for the famous performance car guru, is a nonprofit organization that provides financial support for children and medical professionals that are fighting life-threatening illnesses.
