A History of National Car Care Month
This April, the Car Care Council, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating car lovers and motoring enthusiasts, will be celebrating National Car Care Month, a month-long initiative that aims to raise consumer awareness of how they can improve the dependability of their vehicle and avoid costly repairs.
Initiated by a number of private and public motoring organizations in the 1980s, National Car Care Month began as an attempt to educate the public on how a poorly operating vehicle can lead to air pollution, increased energy consumption and a decrease in fuel efficiency, a tradition that continues to this day.
According to AAA, the goal of the program was to empower every car owner to service their vehicle so that it can cope with extreme temperatures, long travel distances and adverse driving conditions. Today, National Car Care Month is a biannual event, occurring in April and October when many owners are storing their vehicles or preparing to take them out of storage.
"Chances are if you own a car, it needs some work," Rich White, the executive director of the Car Care Council, said when announcing the 2011 event. "National Car Care Month in April is the perfect time to focus on your vehicle's maintenance needs."
In honor of the event, at Cool Rides Online, we're looking to provide our readers with a number of chances to win special prizes through their continued participation on the site. By responding to prompts on our articles and following the rules accordingly, participants can win the tools they need to shape up their car for summer.
However, we're not the only ones offering you the chance to score some great deals on the products and services you need. Many small and local garages run specialty promotions in conjunction with the event. Check your favorite shop in your area to get into the spirit and find out more.
