Not knowing whether I could ever restore a car, I found this 1971 MkII MGB Roadster in a warehouse under rags, boxes, and layers of dust. I bought it and, somehow, drove it 30 miles home. A week later, the clutch was in thousands of pieces. And a couple of months after that was fixed, it had an electrical fire (which scared my daughter and I to death). Seriously re-thinking my decision to purchase this car, I had it rewired and completed the interior restoration, had it painted, and recently had the engine completely rebuilt. It’s almost a new car now. Oh, and I need to mention how much fun it is to drive. I smile every time I drive it.
This is my 1969 Buick Gran Sport Stage 1 Convertible. The original protect-o-plate, invoice and owner’s manual are still with the car.
It is one of only 77 Stage 1 Convertibles delivered for 1969 with a 4 speed manual transmission. The original owner purchased the car in Shelbina, Missouri. He soon moved to the east coast where he raced the car as the “Missouri Shaker” at famous drag strips, including: Dover, Island Raceway, Lebanon Valley, Utica, etc. He moved back to the Midwest where the car was stored in a shed for many years before it’s rescue and restoration. A photo of the car in its race days is included here.
